Vi Living was founded by Penny Pritzker in 1987 – today they own and operate 10 retirement communities across 6 states.

Each facility is designed to around the community. There’s a lot of events – both on campus and off campus – that are meant to foster relationships between residents and staff. Each community also has a board committee that residents can join to help improve the facility and quality of care.

Before moving in, Vi Living wants to know what your interests and hobbies are – this allows them to pair them with like-minded neighbors.

With amenities like this it’s not surprising that Vi Living puts a lot of emphasis on high-end hospitality. And if that’s not enough they also have a special concierge service, valet parking, scheduled transportation, fitness classes, and restaurant-style dining. Professional chefs serve customized meal options.

Vi Living is also the perfect senior community for avid golfers. Many of their facilities include membership to a PGA golf course, and are within short distance of other golf clubs as well.

According to, Vi Living received the highest marks for overall, staff, health and facility.

Type A Care: Senior residents who move to a continuing care center will continue to pay the same monthly fee as they did for their independent living residence. Added charges only for extra meals and ancillary items.

Type C Care: If residents need care, they are billed separately for all services at the market rate.

Type B Care: Hybrid version of types A and C. It includes a set number of days in the community’s care venue at the monthly fee rate. Future care is billed at market rates.

With 10 communities spanning 6 states, each Vi senior community has its own flavor. Each assisted living/senior community – with the exception of TidePointe – offers ‘Type A’ continuing care.

Vi at Grayhawk overlooks the McDowell Mountains and is part of a master-planned community. It’s been ranked as one of the best senior assisted living facilities in Arizona for multiple years running. Grayhawk residents love the hiking club, where they can socialize with others while exploring various national parks.

Vi at Silverstone is located in north Scottsdale, AZ (near the renowned Mayo Clinic) and features an 18-hole putting course and salt-filtered ponds. Senior living apartments and villas are available.


Vi at La Jolla Village is an apartment-style residence located in San Diego’s “Golden Triangle” community. Super close to high-end shopping centers, fine dining restaurants, parks, walking trails, and only a short walk to the beach!

Vi at Palo Alto is a 23-acre senior community that offers easy access to the Stanford Shopping Center, performing arts centers, dining, golf courses, and walking trails. Short drive to downtown San Francisco!


Vi at Highlands Ranch is one of the very few ‘Type A’ continuing care facility in the state. The neighborhood-like community offers mountain views, a variety of floor plan options, and access to the cultural and recreational attractions in the city nearby.


Vi at Aventura is a short drive from the action of downtown Miami, offers four apartment layout options within scenic high-rise buildings. Vi at Aventura offers a ton of amenities – a salt-filtered indoor pool, on-site salon and barbershop, fine dining with an executive chef, and valet parking. There’s even a concierge service to help get you a restaurant reservation or book a tee time!

Vi at Lakeside Village (Lantana) has the perfect location near Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, and Lake Worth and steps from Lake Osborne in Palm Beach County. Resident accommodations are designed for apartment or villa living with a resort-style atmosphere. Also features a huge indoor heated pool!

Vi at Bentley Village in Naples sits on 156-acres and featuring luxury apartments and coach homes. It’s a short distance from Florida’s Gulf Coast beaches and high-end shopping centers. Recreation includes a private 18-hole golf course, tennis and bocce courts, pools, and clubhouses. Residents also love that Key State Park, Fort Myers Beach, and Cape Coral are also close by.


Vi at The Glen is near Chicago and part of a 1,000-acre master planned community, with senior apartments and villas-style condos. Beautifully styled senior living apartments and villas, newly renovated community areas, resort-like amenities, and above-and-beyond service.

South Carolina

Vi Living TidePointe is right on Hilton Head Island!

It features country-club amenities, scenic walking trails and marsh-front shoreline (where TidePointe residents call home). With a fee-for-service (Type C) facility, residents get priority access to the care center, and market rate for monthly or daily care center stays.

Vi Living strives to create a personalized, holistic approach to senior care and wellness. Each Vi community has a care center designed for comfort and convenience, with stylish interiors and resort-like amenities.

In a 2018 survey, Vi Living had a 91% satisfaction rating from residents, with 95% saying they would recommend Vi to a friend!

The downside is that becoming a Vi Living resident isn’t cheap. Compared to the national average and average rates in Florida, Vi Living is considerably more expensive. To join requires a one-time entrance fee, plus a recurring monthly fee (rent).

  • Entrance Fee: $210,000 – $1,150,000
  • Monthly Rent: $3,900 – $6,450

An added entrance fee and monthly fee is charged to couples; this helps cover the cost of the life care benefits for the second person. Depending upon the terms of the contract, entrance fees may be fully or partially repayable to the resident if he or she leaves the community or to the resident’s estate.
